Working with Paul Margoscy

For many years I have admired Paul Margoscy’s wildlife art.  The detail and humour he incorporates in his paintings are brilliant.

In the last few years I have had the great privilege of working with Paul in my capacity as president of the Oatley 101 Society of Artists where I have engaged Paul as a workshop tutor for our members.  Each year participants leave at the end of the 2 days feeling accomplished, proudly showing the paintings they have created under his guidance.  He is the most entertaining of tutors and has everyone hanging off his every word.  This year it was no different.

We were very fortunate this year as Liquitex provided the acrylic inks for participants to use with the airbrush to create the gorgeous soft backgrounds.

I have certainly been inspired by Paul’s work and although he has influenced my art over the years I have found my own path and a very different approach.  It is important to have mentors and instructors along the way but it is more important to find your own style and build on it.

I have had Paul do a workshop for me too. Being a wild life and bird artist, I found his tips and advice extremely helpful. I teach my own workshops and have been influenced by many artists and am in agreement with you that you need to develop your own style and techniques.
I have also adapted a method to paint birds and incorporating some airbrush techniques of my own.
    Thanks for your article.

      Hi Marion
Paul mentioned the workshop he did with you. I had meant to message you on Facebook.
That workshop was interesting as I don’t do the painting. I provide the compressor and airbrush for Paul and I manage that for him some of the time.
However I do take note of what is being said, demonstrated and done.

We will drop in one day when we are up your way. We have family in Maryborough.
Thanks for taking the time to write.

      All the best
      Gerry
