The Australian Artist, Noel Wood and our Bedarra Island Experience

A few years ago, our wonderful Nth Qld family invited us to join them on the magnificent (private) Bedarra Island for a getaway not to be matched.  Private beaches and superb views.  The home we stayed in had views East to the open sea and west towards Dunk Island.  Talk about a hidden paradise.  The private beach where I swam alone for hours while the rest of the group went fishing  was relaxation beyond belief.  The silence (other than the gentle waves washing on the sand and rocks and the rustling leaves) was deafening.

We also watched a mother whale and her calf playing in the waters to the west.  So very exciting.

While we were exploring we came across the remains of the home of the famous Australian Artist Noel Wood.   What an amazing place he had set up.  This ideal, quiet and inspirational art retreat one can only dream about.  This incredible artist’s story came up again when we stayed in a B&B in Maryborough, Qld, where a new friend had been working on a documentary on Noel.  Fate is certainly interesting.  I was quite privileged to see the development of the program and was very impressed with what he had pulled together.
