The End of a Chapter in my Arts’ Journey

Entrance to Ardency Art Exhibition 2019

Six years ago, Joanna Watkins, a brilliant young woman working in Marketing with the Oatley family Lifestyle Resorts, approached the Oatley 101 Society of Artists with her vision for a high quality art exhibition at the Waterbrook Resort in Yowie Bay, NSW. On behalf of the society I met with Joanna to discuss this vision. It was a brilliant business and cultural concept. An opportunity to raise the profile of Australian art and artists, particularly that of our local artists.
I headed up a sub-committee to pull it together and present the first of 6 amazing, annual exhibitions with brilliant support and advice from Chrissie Lloyd (past president Lane Cove Art Society and artist). The 101 sub – committee worked so well and pulled together what has now become an exhibition of note.
Following the sale of Waterbrook to Lend Lease, the Resort was re-branded as Ardency Aroona and the exhibition remained in their care.
As president of the Art Society I remained the coordinator of the exhibition for 5 years. I assisted the committee this year and have handed it over. I am so very proud of the achievements made. With amazing growth in membership, thousands of dollars in charitable funding to art therapy programs provide by organisations such as the Benevolent Society, Sunnyhaven Disability Centre and Youth off the Streets as well as updating all the Art Societies art equipment, electrical and furnishing needs.

This year was another brilliant exhibition. It was judged by the incredible Portrait artist Sally Ryan. The prize winners can be seen on www.oatley101.com
I was very pleased to sell my “Heart and Soul” acrylic on opening night.

It was a fabulous night and a very successful weekend.
Now for new adventures in the world of art.

    Hi Gerry,
You are right. The Ardency Art Exhibition is one of the best of its type around. Terrific venue and particularly well organised. Congratulations to you and the volunteers from the Qatley 101 Society of artists. I have been in the last three Ardency exhibitions and have been impressed each time.
I haven’t seen any information about the show continuing in 2020. Maybe I shouldn’t be asking you now that you have handed over the reins, but I was wondering if you knew if there will be one?
In the past, entry forms were due in February so I thought I would ask.
    Regards,
    Tom

      Hi Tom
Ardency is not going ahead at all. I must admit to being disappointed as it was something I fought for personally and it made a big impact on so many sections of the community.
However these things happen and we must move on.
I do wish you success in many other exhibitions.

      Kindest regards
      Gerry
