Painting waterdrops.

Before you start painting waterdrops study them closely.  Observe them in different lighting situations and on different surfaces.  You will notice that they do not have a set or regular shape.  Draw them as you see them.  Look for the tones, light source, line and colour distortions.

I am still developing my skills in this area but I have found that the best way to paint well is to observe from nature.

The example below amused me.  As I was taking the photograph outside an ant scurried into the ‘shade’ of the droplet and just stayed there.

Ant in the Shade

This droplet was just about to fall.  The end of the leaf was slightly curled and was almost hooked in the droplet.  The colours were swirling as the water moved and the light was sparkling. The early morning rain had just finished and the sun was out.
