Doing what I want to do!
Art! Creating it, talking about it, buying and selling it. I love every aspect of my craft.
At Kurnell Art Gallery and indeed all art shows in which I am involved, I have the opportunity to meet a wonderful cross section of the community (from all over Sydney, Australia and overseas). Talking about art is exciting, educational and essential. Art in all its many and varied facets tells stories of time, events, fashion, colour and design. It is dramatic, comical and often controversial but everyone has an opinion on all forms of art. The conversations I have with people from all walks of life add to the energy art inspires.
Now why buy art in a time when financial quarters are swinging in and out of comfort zones? It is a tangible acknowledgement that things are OK and will continue to be OK. Original art is in effect, priceless to the person with whom it connects.
A good artwork becomes a great artwork when someone buys it to put in their home or workplace. It becomes a centre of quiet reflection or meaningful conversation. Original art carries a degree of prestige. No one else will have that particular artwork. One does not need to be flush with funds to own a beautiful painting.
I have been very fortunate to have been commissioned to produce a number of pet portraits. This I feel to be a great privilege as animals have such distinct characteristics both physically and personally. For owners to put their trust in me and my art is extraordinary and rather humbling.
As we draw to the close of 2012 I am very pleased to say that success does come with determination and hard work. It is very lucky for me that I can do this in the field I love most of all, mixing with people from all walks of life and making the most of every minute.
