Glorious Gouache

I have been discovering the magic of gouache over the last few years and have experimented with all the colours available, on various papers, with various brushes and applicators. It is an exciting medium which allows so much flexibility.

I love the dry brush technique and the effects of rough surfaces. I do go through brushes quickly but it is worth it. What textures can be created when you let the tools and materials loose with your creativity. Now that I have so much understanding of the paints I am painting up a storm.

I love fine detail and brilliant colours. I look for the layers and combinations of colour in fur and bark, flowers and leaves. Gouache allows the layers to build and present a depth which is so lifelike. My work is evolving with each painting as I discover a little bit more about the medium and my own abilities.

How wonderful it is to think that others enjoy my work as well.

I must be doing something right as a result of demonstrations I did in 2010, I have been booked to do 2 demonstrations in 2011 already. The first is for Sutherland Art Society on Wednesday 2nd February at 1PM. The second is for Oatley 101 Society of Artists on Saturday 10th September. I am really looking forward to them both.
