Australian Bird and Flower Paintings in Acrylic

Australian birds are such incredibly beautiful creatures, with wonderful personalities. Their antics and songs bring great joy. Cockatoos and Tawney Frogmouth nightjars are special favourites of mine.
I delight in painting them as often as I am able. To capture their individuality is an exciting challenge. Acrylic paints are so versatile and allow for as much or as little detail as is necessary.

Colourful and unusual flowers are always worth the time. The Western Australian Mottlecah (Bush Rose) is a perfect example of a large, scrappy bush with the most extraordinary large, leathery foliage and big, beautiful flowers. (This painting sold recently on its first time out.)
Last year I was fortunate to see the amazing bat flower blooming on the Atherton Tableands. My clever sister in law proudly showed it off. This is a small painting and I am now working on a much larger canvas to better show its incredible makeup.

“Pearls of Joy” – acrylic on board.
