Painting Gum Flowers, Rainforests and Wildlife in Gouache

I will be presenting 3 demonstrations in the use of gouache in the next few months.  I want to show how gouache can be used as a watercolour medium.   As well I will go through my method of dry brush work to achieve fine detail, texture and depth.

1. Saturday 10th September, Oatley West Scout Hall, 101 Woronora Pde, Oatley West, 2223, from 2PM – 4PM.    Cost: $5.00 for members – $8.00 for non-members.  That includes a lovely afternoon tea.

For this demonstration the subject is gum flowers.  I love painting Australian wildlife (birds and possums) playing amongst the various gum flowers.  There is something pure about these subjects and the colours are exquisite.  This is where gouache has an edge. This demonstration will focus on the gum flowers, gum nuts and branches.

2. Monday 12th September, Nepean Art Society, The Cottage, 3 North St, Penrith, from 7.30PM – 9PM. Cost: $5.00 for non-members.  That includes a tasty supper.

I will be painting wildlife in this demonstration.  I want to show how to layer colour in gouache so that it builds up the thickness of fur and does not muddy or crack the paint.

3. Wednesday 5th October, Sutherland Art Society, Jannali Community Hall, Mary St, Jannali from 1PM – 3.30PM.  Cost: $5.00 for members – $6.00 for non-members.  That includes a delightful afternoon tea.

I have decided to do a misty rainforest for this demonstration.  Having grown up in rainforest country in far north Qld this has always been an area of deep connection for me.  I know the sounds, smells and feel of these rich environments and have fond memories of a time before much of the wilderness was cleared.

All in all I think this should cover a few areas of interest for all.  I am really looking forward to it all.
