Tawney Frogmouths in Gouache

I was having an interesting chat with a visitor to one of the recent art shows.  She said that her friends will not go to a show where there are owl paintings.  She was referring to one of my recent tawney frogmouth paintings.  The reason she gave was that owls are badluck.   I needed to clarify the fact that even though tawney frogmouths are often mistaken for owls, they are in fact nightjars.  They are nocturnal and have some similarities in appearance, however owls are raptors catching their prey in their talons.  Nightjars only catch prey with their beak.

The great news for me was that the painting was sold at that show.
